Toby Harriet Agulnick, a beloved resident of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born in Philadelphia in 1935, Toby was a dedicated educator and a passionate supporter of the arts who touched the lives of many in her community.
Following her graduation from Overbrook High School, Toby pursued higher education at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1957, she married her lifelong partner, Ronald Agulnick. The couple settled in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1960, where they raised three children: Cheryl Hochberg, Lawrence Agulnick, and the late Karen Cole. Their home became a nurturing environment that fostered strong family bonds and community connections.
Toby is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald, as well as her daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Ken Hochberg, son Lawrence and daughter-in-law Denise Johnston, and son-in-law Jim Cole. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Jesse Cole, Elijah Cole, Gracie Morris, Leo Hochberg, Katherine Hallowell, and Abigail Agulnick, along with her three great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Bridget Hallowell, and Victor Morris.
A Passion for Education and Community Engagement
Throughout her life, Toby demonstrated a profound commitment to education and the arts. She served as a teacher, inspiring countless students. In her later years, she became a docent at the Brandywine Museum of Art, where she shared her passion for art with visitors, enriching their experiences with her knowledge and love for creativity.
Toby took great pride in her home, where she created a warm and inviting atmosphere for family gatherings and celebrations. Her dedication to making holidays special resulted in lasting memories for her family and friends. She will be remembered not only as a devoted wife and loving mother but also as a steadfast and supportive presence in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Memorial Service and Legacy
A memorial service honoring Toby’s life will be held on February 22, 20252:00 PM at Kesher Israel Synagogue in West Chester. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Toby’s honor to be made to the synagogue, reflecting her deep commitment to her faith and community.
