Clemson University’s Presidential Search Committee convened on January 16, 2024, to further its efforts in selecting the institution’s 16th president. The committee, chaired by Cheri Phyfer, reviewed feedback gathered from various community members and established a timeline for the ongoing search process.
Phyfer expressed confidence in the progress made thus far, stating, “We continue to make outstanding progress in our search with a goal to have Clemson’s next president in place within six months.” Since the committee’s inception, it has interacted with 18 different stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, staff, affiliate organizations, and local officials. The discussions have been described as thoughtful and constructive, underscoring the community’s engagement in the process.
Commitment to Transparency and Engagement
During the meeting, the committee reaffirmed its dedication to keeping the campus and broader community informed as the search unfolds. An update is scheduled for the full Board of Trustees at its winter quarterly meeting in February. Phyfer emphasized the importance of maintaining open channels of communication, saying, “I’m energized by the progress we’ve made and confident we are on the path to select Clemson’s next exceptional leader.”
The committee is collaborating with Funk Associates to finalize the search timeline and create essential materials to aid in the selection process. The involvement of an external firm is expected to enhance the thoroughness and effectiveness of the search.
As Clemson University moves forward, the search committee’s focus remains on identifying a leader who can guide the institution into its next chapter. With an established timeline and a commitment to engaging with the community, the path ahead appears promising for the university and its stakeholders.
