The Bethlehem Citizens Police Academy is currently accepting applications for its fall program, aimed at fostering a better understanding between the community and the police. With the deadline for applications set for August 29, the academy may face cancellation if interest does not increase.
This eight-week course offers members of the public insights into the operations of the Bethlehem Police Department. Participants will learn about various aspects of policing, including the department’s hiring process, training procedures, community policing, and the complexities of criminal investigations. Additionally, police officers will be available to address questions regarding their roles and experiences.
The academy’s mission is to enhance the relationship between law enforcement and the community. According to a recent news release, the program aims to provide attendees with a clearer understanding of what they can expect from the officers serving them and the services the department provides.
Currently, only four individuals have applied for the program. The Bethlehem Police Department has indicated that a low number of applicants could lead to the cancellation of the academy this year if more interest does not develop in the coming weeks.
Classes are scheduled to commence on September 10 and will take place every Wednesday from 18:30 to 20:30 at the headquarters of the Bethlehem Police Department. Those interested in participating can find further information and application details on the city’s official website.
The success of the Citizens Police Academy hinges on community engagement, making it essential for local residents to consider this opportunity to connect with their police department and learn more about its functions.
