Art Lab Thursdays Launches Creative After-School Program for Kids

A new after-school art program, Art Lab Thursdays, will begin on January 29, 2024, providing children ages 6 to 12 with a creative and supportive environment to explore various art materials. Hosted by Panther City Artists, a Fort Worth-based nonprofit, the program emphasizes the importance of creativity, confidence, and personal expression through art.

The program is designed as a drop-off format, running every Thursday from 16:00 to 17:30. Each session will start with a brief, guided introduction to the day’s activities, followed by open studio time. During this period, children will have the opportunity to paint, draw, sculpt, and experiment with various materials, all while receiving support and encouragement from experienced instructors.

Art Lab Thursdays places a strong emphasis on the process of creating rather than focusing solely on the final product. The program encourages participants to embrace creativity over comparison, allowing each child to work at their own pace. The goal is to foster joy through making, helping young artists build confidence in their abilities.

Participants can engage in a variety of art activities, including painting and mixed media, clay and sculpture, drawing and mark-making, as well as collage and building projects. This diverse range of options ensures that every child can find a medium that resonates with them, promoting creative exploration.

Registration for Art Lab Thursdays offers flexible options. Families can choose to pay $25 for a drop-in session or opt for a $95 monthly membership, which covers four Thursdays. This structure provides accessibility for families looking to introduce their children to the arts without a long-term commitment.

Panther City Artists, the organization behind this initiative, is dedicated to inclusive, process-based art education. With a strong commitment to fostering creativity among young people, the nonprofit aims to make art accessible and enjoyable for all children in the Fort Worth area.
