The Stafford County Board of County Commissioners convened on August 20, 2023, to discuss zoning regulations and financial matters affecting the county. The meeting, held in the Commission Room of the Annex, was chaired by Jim Stanford and included commissioners Bryce Garner and Todd Wycoff.
A significant focus of the meeting was the update from Carl Miller of the Planning & Zoning department concerning a recent zoning hearing. This hearing, which took place on the evening of August 19, centered on a proposed communications tower southeast of St. John. The zoning board approved the special use permit for the tower with a vote of 6-1. The resolution for this permit is scheduled for presentation at the board’s next regular meeting on September 24, 2023, at 8:30 a.m.
In addition to the tower proposal, Miller provided insights into ongoing amendments to the county’s zoning regulations concerning solar power. He indicated that he will continue collaborating with Adams Jones Law to ensure the regulations align with Kansas statutes.
Commissioner Garner moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting on August 13, which Wycoff seconded. The board also reviewed and signed Accounts Payable Claims for Payment, totaling $226,609.31. The claims included various funds, such as General ($35,853.17), Road & Bridge ($27,316.07), and the Eco Devo Housing Grant, which accounted for a substantial $150,000.00.
The meeting concluded at 9:35 a.m., with the board members expressing a commitment to advance discussions on zoning and regulatory matters in future sessions.
