K. Wayne Wicker, chairman and CEO of South Atlantic Bank, has been elected treasurer of the American Bankers Association (ABA) board of directors for the 2025-2026 term. This appointment was confirmed during the ABA’s annual convention held last week. Wicker, who has been a member of the ABA board since 2022, has already served as treasurer since 2024.
With over 38 years of experience in the banking sector, Wicker brings significant expertise to his new role. He is also a member of the South Carolina State Board of Financial Institutions and has previously held the position of chairman for the South Carolina Bankers Association. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from The Citadel and has completed advanced banking education at both Louisiana State University and the University of South Carolina.
Wicker’s military background includes service in the South Carolina Air National Guard as a Gulf War veteran, further enhancing his leadership profile. The election of Wicker and other ABA officers marks a pivotal moment for the organization, as they will help shape the advocacy priorities that impact financial institutions across the United States.
In a statement, Rob Nichols, president and CEO of the ABA, expressed his congratulations to the newly elected leaders. “Their voices will be central to shaping the advocacy priorities for America’s banks and helping to advance a policy environment that empowers financial institutions to innovate, compete and serve their customers,” Nichols said. He emphasized the collective aim of strengthening the financial system and driving economic growth.
