PPC Group and METLEN Energy Form Joint Venture for 1,500MW Energy Storage

METLEN Energy & Metals Logo

PPC Group and METLEN Energy & Metals, two prominent players in the energy sector, have officially launched a joint venture aimed at developing a significant portfolio of energy storage projects across Europe. The agreement, finalized on March 5, 2026, will facilitate the creation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a total capacity of up to 1,500 MW or 3,000 MWh in Romania, Bulgaria, and Italy.

Under the terms of the Joint Venture Agreement (JVA), both companies will equally share ownership, with each holding a 50% stake in the new entity. This collaboration is expected to yield rapid project development and enhance energy management capabilities, leveraging the strengths of both organizations.

Strategic Goals for Energy Storage

The joint venture aims to implement 1,000 MW of energy storage capacity within the next 12 months. This ambitious timeline highlights the urgency and importance of energy storage solutions in stabilizing power systems and supporting renewable energy sources. The two-hour liquid-cooled battery systems will utilize advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) technology, known for its efficiency and safety.

PPC Group, with its established operations in all three targeted countries, brings extensive experience in project development and energy management. The company’s existing infrastructure allows for swift execution, ensuring that the joint venture can meet its ambitious goals. Meanwhile, METLEN complements this expertise with its deep understanding of construction and project delivery, promising timely and high-quality project execution.

Enhancing Renewable Energy Integration

The new storage stations will play a crucial role in supporting the operation of photovoltaic and wind parks, contributing to greater stability in the power grid. By providing a reliable means to store excess energy generated during peak production times, these projects will facilitate a more efficient integration of renewable resources into the energy mix.

As global energy demands continue to rise, the partnership between PPC Group and METLEN represents a significant step towards addressing these challenges. The two companies are poised to make a meaningful impact on energy systems across Europe, aligning with broader sustainability goals and commitments to renewable energy development.

This joint venture not only underscores the potential of energy storage technology but also highlights the importance of collaboration in the energy sector. As they move forward, both companies are committed to ensuring that their projects meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency, ultimately benefiting consumers and the environment alike.
