The Mega Millions jackpot has reached an impressive estimated total of $800 million (approximately $371.7 million in cash) after a recent drawing failed to produce a winning ticket. This latest jackpot increase follows a series of four wins within the first six months of 2025, with the last jackpot claimed in Virginia on June 27. The next drawing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4.
In the most recent drawing, held on Friday night, the winning numbers were announced as 2, 24, 52, 66, and 68, with the Mega Ball number being 9. Historically, November has not seen a Mega Millions jackpot win since 2016, but since the game’s inception in 2002, there have been 16 jackpots won in this month. The largest November jackpot occurred on November 4, 2014, when a ticket sold in New York won $326 million.
Tickets for Mega Millions are priced at $5 each, which includes a randomly assigned multiplier that can increase the base prize levels by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or even 10X. Notably, half of the proceeds from ticket sales remain within the state where the tickets are sold. This money is allocated to support designated good causes and retailer commissions.
The odds of winning any Mega Millions prize stand at 1 in 23, while the odds of winning the jackpot are significantly lower at 1 in 290,472,336. Mega Millions is accessible across 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Mega Millions has made headlines in recent years with some of the largest jackpots in history. Other notable jackpots include $1.537 billion in South Carolina on October 23, 2018, and $1.348 billion in Maine on January 13, 2023.
The New York Lottery, recognized as North America’s largest and most profitable lottery, reported contributions of $3.7 billion in Lottery Aid to Education for the fiscal year 2022-2023. This revenue is distributed to local school districts using a formula that considers both the size and income level of each district, ensuring that larger, lower-income districts receive a proportionately larger share of the funds.
