Luca Shaw Secures Second Place at 2025 UCI Downhill World Cup

Monster Energy’s Luca Shaw Claims Second Place at 2025 UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Lake Placid

In a thrilling conclusion to the ninth round of the 2025 UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup, Luca Shaw of Monster Energy finished in second place at the event held in Lake Placid, New York, over the weekend. The 28-year-old from Hendersonville, North Carolina, delivered an impressive performance, clinching his podium spot amid fierce competition on October 5, 2025.

Shaw’s Performance in Lake Placid

Taking place from October 3-5, the Lake Placid event marked the UCI Downhill series’ first stop in North America after eight rounds in Europe. The picturesque backdrop of the Adirondack Mountains and the newly constructed track on Whiteface Mountain set the stage for an exhilarating race. Designed specifically for this championship, the course featured challenging elements including steep inclines, technical sections, and significant jumps.

Shaw entered the finals as the top qualifier and the last rider to descend the course. His final time of 3:06.659 placed him just 0.713 seconds behind the winner. After finishing the fourth split in fourth position, Shaw rallied during the final stretch, energizing the crowd with a performance that showcased his skill and determination.

“I almost threw it all away at the top with a couple of mistakes. I was riding well all weekend, and after my P1 in qualifying, I tried to carry that into the finals as much as I could,” said Shaw. “I’m proud of this one and now onto the last round!”

Overall Rankings and Upcoming Events

Shaw’s podium finish elevated him to third place in the overall standings of the 2025 UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup with a total of 1156 points. The competition remains intense as only two races are left in the season. In the Elite Women division, Camille Balanche from Le Locle, Switzerland, finished fourth with a time of 3:34.140, moving her up to fourth place in the overall rankings with 1136 points.
