Komatsu Expands in Northern California with Fresno Dealership Revival

Global heavy equipment manufacturer Komatsu has revitalized its presence in Northern California by reopening the former Gee Heavy Machinery dealerships in Fresno and Sacramento. This expansion, which brings both sites back into operation, is part of Komatsu’s strategy to enhance its service offerings in the region.

Gee Heavy Machinery ceased operations in July 2023, following a comprehensive evaluation of its long-term viability, as reported by Equipment World. The company had previously taken over as the official Komatsu distributor for Northern California in December 2023, after the closure of the former distributor, Core Machinery. During its shutdown, Gee Heavy Machinery filed state layoff notices affecting a total of 57 workers across its locations, including offices in Fremont and Redding, in addition to Fresno.

Both the Fresno and Sacramento dealerships are once again operational, now staffed by Komatsu professionals. Many of these technicians are familiar faces who previously served local customers. As part of the revival, Komatsu West aims to provide comprehensive sales, rental, parts, and service capabilities, all designed to optimize operational uptime and productivity for clients in the area.

Commitment to Customer Support

The reopening of these dealerships also introduces an expanded inventory of pre-owned equipment, with over 350 pieces available for purchase. This increase in selection reflects Komatsu’s commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its customers in Northern California.

“Our focus is on supporting customers and helping them keep their operations running smoothly,” stated Todd Gaspers, Vice President of Operations for Komatsu West. Gaspers emphasized that by expanding into Northern California, the company is ensuring that customers have access to the local expertise, inventory, and service they rely on.

This strategic move by Komatsu West not only restores vital services to Northern California but also strengthens its market position in the competitive heavy equipment landscape. With a renewed focus on customer satisfaction and operational efficiency, the company is poised to make a significant impact in the region.
