Il Leone, a popular pizza restaurant from Peaks Island, Maine, is set to open its first location in Brooklyn later this year. This marks an exciting expansion for the brand, which has been well-received for its wood-fired pizzas on the island. The new restaurant will occupy the space previously held by Bar Vinazo at 158 Seventh Ave in Park Slope.
Founder and chef Ben Wexler-Waite confirmed the news during a recent phone conversation with What Now New York. He indicated that the Brooklyn location is expected to open its doors later this year. The restaurant on Peaks Island concluded its seasonal operations on August 25, paving the way for this new venture.
Menu Highlights and Dining Experience
Il Leone aims to replicate the same high-quality offerings that have garnered a loyal following on Peaks Island. The menu will feature naturally leavened, wood-fired pizzas made with ingredients sourced from local farms and farmers markets. Signature items include classic options like margherita pizza and pizza bianca, as well as specialty creations such as the Isola. This standout pizza is topped with wood-fired lobster from Maine, San Marzano tomato sauce, organic basil, garlic, chili flakes, Italian rosé, and Sicilian extra virgin olive oil.
In addition to the food, the Brooklyn location will boast an open kitchen, a bar, and an expansive backyard area, creating an inviting atmosphere for diners. The beverage selection will highlight natural and low-intervention Italian wines, along with a variety of cocktails, spritzes, and beers.
Hiring and Future Prospects
As the opening date approaches, Il Leone has begun the hiring process for the Brooklyn location. Positions were advertised earlier this fall, indicating the restaurant’s commitment to staffing the new venue with quality personnel.
The expansion into Brooklyn represents a significant milestone for Il Leone, allowing it to reach a broader audience while maintaining the essence of its original offerings. With its focus on quality ingredients and a vibrant dining experience, the brand is poised to make a notable impact in New York’s competitive culinary scene.
