The city of Greeley is currently inviting qualified artists to submit proposals for a sculpture installation at the Wastewater Treatment and Reclamation Facility. Proposals must be submitted by August 25, 2023, according to a recent announcement from the city.
Selected artists will be tasked with creating a public art piece that highlights the facility’s various processes, which include the cleaning of wastewater before it is returned to local rivers and the use of microbiological techniques. This initiative aims to not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the facility but also to foster public understanding of the vital functions it serves.
Artists interested in applying can access the complete call description and details about the selection process online. The city has provided a link for applicants to review the requirements: bit.ly/4f9ZxX9.
In addition to this sculpture project, Greeley’s Public Art program plans to issue a separate call for artists in 2026. This future project will involve the design of a large mural that will be placed on a 150-foot-long concrete wall adjacent to the sculpture installation.
The Public Art program is dedicated to commissioning projects that are of “redeeming quality” and that advance the public’s appreciation of visual art. As stated in the city’s release, the goal is to enhance the aesthetic quality of public spaces throughout Greeley.
For any inquiries regarding the proposal process, artists can reach out to Kim Snyder at 970-350-9450.
This initiative reflects Greeley’s commitment to integrating art into community infrastructure, promoting not only functionality but also cultural enrichment within the city. The selected artwork will serve as a reminder of the essential role that wastewater treatment plays in maintaining a healthy environment.
