Skyports Infrastructure and the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) have marked a significant milestone in the construction of the world’s first commercial vertiport, known as DXV. The ceremonial “topping-out” event took place as the facility reached its highest point, with construction now standing at 60 percent completion. The project is on track for its planned completion in the first quarter of 2026.
Located adjacent to Dubai International Airport, the DXV vertiport will be integral to the Dubai Vertiport Network, facilitating flights with Joby Aviation’s S4 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Commercial services are expected to commence in 2026, with DXV designed to handle up to 42,000 aircraft movements and approximately 170,000 passengers annually.
Facility Features and Future Connectivity
The DXV vertiport is equipped with two take-off and landing areas, along with advanced technologies to support eVTOL flights, including fast-charging infrastructure and safety equipment that meet the highest global aviation standards. The facility is also capable of accommodating conventional helicopter traffic.
Spanning four floors and covering a footprint of 3,100 square meters, the passenger terminal aims to provide a seamless experience for travelers. Features include automated electronic check-in, advanced security screening, a premium lounge, and briefing rooms. Additionally, the development incorporates a multi-deck car park to facilitate easy transfers between air and ground transportation. The vertiport is conveniently located within walking distance of the Emirates metro station, enhancing intermodal connectivity.
The topping-out ceremony was attended by key figures, including Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports; Bonny Simi, COO of Joby Aviation; and Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA.
Statements from Leaders
Duncan Walker emphasized the significance of vertiports in the advancement of Air Mobility, stating, “With DXV reaching this pivotal milestone, we’re seeing AAM history in the making.” He noted that Dubai is on track to become the first city globally to implement commercial AAM services, adding that the project aims to facilitate “ultra-fast, zero-emission travel” that could transform urban mobility.
Ahmed Hashem Bahrozyan echoed this sentiment, describing the progress at the DXV vertiport as a defining moment for Dubai’s aspirations to launch the world’s first aerial taxi service. “This milestone reflects Dubai’s commitment to transforming mobility through innovation, efficiency, and seamless integration across all modes of transportation,” he said. Bahrozyan highlighted the objective of enhancing the customer experience, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient journeys across the city.
As the construction of DXV advances, it reinforces Dubai’s position as a global leader in future transportation solutions, setting a precedent for urban air mobility initiatives worldwide.
