Boston Mutual Life Insurance Company has appointed Grant D. Ward Sr., JD, as its new Chief Executive Officer and President, effective January 1, 2026. He will replace Paul A. Quaranto Jr., who is set to retire on December 31, 2025. In addition to leading Boston Mutual, Ward will also serve as President of the company’s New York subsidiary, the Life Insurance Company of Boston & New York (LICOBNY).
Quaranto, who has been with the company for many years, will continue to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors after his retirement. He expressed confidence in Ward’s leadership abilities, stating, “This is an exciting time for Boston Mutual Life, and Grant is the ideal leader to guide us forward.”
Ward brings nearly a decade of experience to his new role, having joined Boston Mutual in 2016. Prior to his appointment as CEO, he held the positions of President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) and served as General Counsel & Secretary, where he oversaw various departments, including Customer Experience, Claims, and Legal Compliance.
The Board of Directors approved Ward’s appointment unanimously. In a statement, he said, “I’m honored to serve our policyholders, brokers, and employees as Boston Mutual Life’s next CEO. Our customers remain at the center of everything we do. Building on the strong foundation Paul created, we will continue to provide affordable insurance solutions tailored to customers’ needs.”
Ward’s extensive background includes roles at SBLI of Massachusetts, MetLife Financial Services, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Howard University and a Doctor of Law degree from DePaul College of Law. Additionally, he graduated from the LIMRA Strategic Leadership Experience at The Wharton School of Business.
Beyond his professional achievements, Ward is also committed to community service and industry leadership. He has actively represented Boston Mutual with organizations such as the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) and the Life Insurance Association of Massachusetts (LIAM). His community involvement includes mentorship roles with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts and My Brother’s Keeper in Easton, Massachusetts.
