One of the most anticipated films of 2025, F1 The Movie, is set to hit cinemas on Friday, June 27. In a bid to capitalize on the growing excitement, the studio has organized paid previews at select IMAX theaters across India. As soon as advance bookings opened, tickets were snapped up quickly, underscoring the film’s immense popularity. However, the steep ticket prices have left many fans in shock.

In Delhi-NCR, where the film’s fan base is particularly strong, the ticket prices for these previews have sparked considerable debate. Initially, bookings were available only at PVR Ambience Gurugram and PVR Select City Walk Delhi, with prices starting at Rs. 1000. At PVR Ambience Gurugram, tickets are priced at Rs. 1200, Rs. 1300, and Rs. 1400. Meanwhile, PVR Select City Walk Delhi offers tickets at Rs. 1200 for standard and lounger seats, Rs. 1300 for the ‘Xtra Legroom’ section, and a staggering Rs. 2000 for recliners. Fortunately, PVR Superplex Logix Noida has added a show with more affordable options, pricing normal tickets at Rs. 600 and recliners at Rs. 1200. Despite this, the average ticket price in the capital remains a hefty Rs. 1350.

IMAX Pricing Across India

The elevated prices are not confined to Delhi-NCR alone. Other IMAX venues across India have also set higher rates for the previews compared to their usual weekend prices. For instance, Inox Malad Mumbai is charging Rs. 610, Rs. 700, and Rs. 770, surpassing its highest weekend rate of Rs. 620. Similarly, Inox Kolkata is offering tickets at Rs. 680, higher than its weekend rate of Rs. 580, while Inox Kochi’s rates range from Rs. 700 to Rs. 800, compared to Rs. 600 on weekends. However, some cinemas, such as PVR Lower Parel, Miraj IMAX Wadala, Inox Chennai, PVR Nexus Bengaluru, and Cinepolis Bengaluru, have maintained their weekend pricing for the previews.

The average ticket price across all 13 IMAX properties hosting the previews is approximately Rs. 798.44.

Fan Reactions and Market Dynamics

Despite the high prices, the response from fans has been overwhelmingly positive, with many shows expected to sell out by Wednesday. The IMAX Chennai screening is already fully booked, four days ahead of its scheduled date. This enthusiastic reception highlights the strong market demand for big-budget films presented in premium formats like IMAX.

According to industry analysts, the pricing strategy reflects a broader trend in the film industry, where premium experiences command higher prices. This approach capitalizes on the willingness of a segment of the audience to pay more for enhanced viewing experiences. However, it also raises questions about accessibility and the potential alienation of budget-conscious fans.

Looking Ahead

As the release date approaches, it remains to be seen whether additional shows will be added to accommodate the high demand and how pricing will be adjusted. The success of these previews could set a precedent for future releases, potentially influencing how studios approach pricing for premium screenings.

The excitement surrounding F1 The Movie underscores the enduring appeal of high-octane, visually spectacular films. As audiences flock to cinemas, the film industry continues to navigate the delicate balance between maximizing revenue and ensuring broad accessibility.
